Adigrat
Corner stone for construction activities of the university was laid on Dec. 17, 2008 by his Excellency Ato Tsegay Berhe, former President of the Tigray Reg Adigrat University (ADU) is a public higher educational institution established in December 2001 EC. It has two campuses: Genahty which is giving service now with an area of 100 hectares and Mai-Bea which is expected to be built soon which covers 60 hectares. ADU has four colleges currently: college of engineering, college of Natural and computational science, college of social sciences and Humanities and college of business and economics. ADU also plans to open two colleges next year: College of agriculture and college of health sciences. The University adopted the city’s name for the reason that Adigrat is a city in the country noted for the production of cultural food ’Tihlo’ local drink ‘Mies’ or ‘Tej’. Furthermore, the city is also famous for its local fruit called ‘Beless’ People in Adigrat and its surrounding are naturally friendly and more for the ADU community and one can easily walk out to the nearest community get an enthusiastic welcome.
