The EKA University of Applied Sciences was founded on July 23, 1998. On February 8, 2001, the EKA received Accreditation Sheet of the EKA University of Applied Sciences (No. 017). On November 16, 2006, the EKA was granted permanent accreditation. 67% of the EKA academic staff are lecturers with Doctor Degree. The EKA has concluded ERASMUS cooperation agreements with higher educational institutions in France, Italy, Lithuania, Poland, Macedonia, the Netherlands, Slovenia, Spain, Turkey, Germany, and Hungary. Every year the list of the EKA University of Applied Sciences partners is expanded with new partners. Every year students and lecturers participate in exchange programmes. The EKA is a member of the Baltic University Programme that unites 160 universities in 14 countries of the Baltic Sea region. In 2013, the University hosted the first Fulbright programme scholar. The programme is financed by the US State Department. EKA is a member of several Latvian and international associations, for example: Higher Education Export Association of Latvia, Latvian Information and Communications Technology Association, Latvian Association of Private Universities, Latvian Employers Confederation, Baltic Management Development Association. In 2019 EKA achieved ranking top positions in U-Multirank rating among Latvian private higher education institutions In a study conducted by the Ministry of Education and Science in 2020, graduates of EKA bachelor′s programs in 2017 ranked first among Latvian private higher education institutions and third place among all Latvian higher education institutions. The monitoring data of the Ministry of Education and Science on the employment of graduates of higher education institutions in 2019 published in April 2021 show that EKA graduates rank first among Latvian private higher education institutions and rank at the top immediately after the largest state higher education institutions. In 2022 EKA is in Top 1 position in U-Multirank rating among Latvian private higher education institutions.
