Founded 1962 as Institut Polytechnique, became University 1984. Acquired present status 1989. Previously known as Université de Conakry. A State institution under the supervision of the Ministry of Education. Gamal Abdel Nasser University of Conakry, is the largest university in Guinea and located in Dixinn Commune, Conakry, the Guinean capital. The name is generally shortened to the University of Conakry.
