The Federal Government of Nigeria did not allow the establishment of private polytechnics until January 1993 when the Education (National Minimum Standards and Establishment of Institutions) Decree of 1985 was amended. It was for the promulgation of this Decree that Grace Institute aspired to become Grace Polytechnic. Grace Polytechnic has two campuses: one in Surulere, Lagos Central, and the other in Omu, Epe Division of Lagos State. Both campuses enjoy an atmosphere of peace and quietude as they are located away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Late Dr (Chief) O.O. Onamuti is hitherto the Chairman Governing Council of the second private polytechnic in Nigeria.
