International Sakharov Environmental Institute is the leading educational institution of Belarus for specialist training on environmental specialties, the base organization of the CIS countries on environmental education, a distinct life philosophy of harmonious relation development between nature and humans corresponding to the co-evolution principles, unique environmental specialties. The educational process at the Institute is provided at three faculties: Environmental Monitoring, Environmental Medicine, Advanced Training and Retraining, and at the joint faculty at Tajik National University (the Republic of Tajikistan). The Institute has 12 chairs: Information Technologies in Ecology and Medicine; Environmental Monitoring and Management; Energy Efficient Technologies of Nuclear and Radiation Safety; General and Medical Physics; Social Humanitarian Sciences and Sustainable Development; Environmental Chemistry and Biochemistry; Immunology and Environmental Epidemiology; Environmental Medicine and Radiobiology; General Ecology, Biology, and Environmental Genetics; Linguistic Disciplines and International Communications; Physical Education. 222 lecturers (15 professors, 22 doctors of sciences, 109 PhDs, 86 associate professors) work at the Institute. The educational process is also provided by 31 research laboratories. More than 2000 students, master students (full time, correspondence form), postgraduate students (full time, correspondence form) study at the Institute. Full time student training is provided on the following specialties: Nuclear and Radiation Safety, Nature Protection Activities (majors in Environmental Management and Expertise, Environmental Monitoring), Energy Efficient Technologies and Energy Management, Medical Physics, Information Systems and Technologies (in public health), Information Systems and Technologies (in ecology), Medical and Biological Science, Medical Ecology, Bio-ecology. Students obtain one of the following qualifications: «Engineer», «Ecologist. Engineer on environmental protection», «Engineer-energy manager», «Medical physicist», «Engineer-programmer», «Engineer-programmer-ecologist», «Biologist-analyst. Teacher of Biology», «Ecologist-expert», «Biologist-ecologist. Teacher of Biology and Ecology». The IAEA courses on radiation protection and safety of ionizing radiation sources are held based on the faculty of Advanced Training and Retraining. The courses are held based on model curriculum developed by IAEA specialists and leading specialists of the world’s training centers developed by the IAEA specialist and leading specialists of the world’s training centers on nuclear energy. The Institute signed the agreements on cooperation with more than 60 training and research centers of near and far abroad, there is the implementation of joint international projects, students and academic staff exchange, international workshops and conferences within these agreements. International projects TEMPUS HS (2012-2015) and TEMPUS EcoBRU (2013-2015) aimed at the development of academic programs to train the specialists of II stage of higher education and retrain the specialists in the field of environmental safety are implemented at the institute.
