The Official University of Ruwenzori is a Higher and University Education Establishment initiated by Professor BBEMO MUSUBAHO MUTATSAPA BAUDOUIN in 1999. At that time, the political situation of the Province of North Kivu, in particular, and the Congolese nation, in General, were in the throes of a politico-military rebellion that had practically split the Democratic Republic of the Congo into two parts: the east was controlled by several rebellions and the west was administered by the central government. This state of insecurity has prevented young state graduates from the region from continuing their higher and university studies, in official institutions such as the University of Lubumbashi, in the Katanga Province, the University of Kisangani, in the Province Orientale, and the University of Kinshasa, in the Capital of the Republic. To overcome this shortage of Higher and University Education Establishments in the public sector, and to meet the strong demand for education from young state graduates, in the territories of Lubero and Beni, Professor BBEMO MUSUBAHO MUTATSAPA Baudouin initiated the project for the erection of a Higher and University Education institution to serve the two aforementioned territories. The Official University of Ruwenzori has the vision of excellence in the training of students and of quality in the services of teachers. Since its creation, the Official University of Ruwenzori has been investing in the education and instruction of Congolese youth in order to reach the top of science and technology. Born in the context of the rebellion, the Official University of Ruwenzori is committed to promoting education since it is convinced that through education, it will become possible to eradicate in the minds of the Congolese, who live in the east of the Republic, the roots of division and manipulation. Given its strategic position in Central Africa, it has an interculturalist vision, aimed at establishing a scientific synergy in the Great Lakes region. The Establishment sees itself as a focal point for the dissemination of knowledge making the junction between the Democratic Republic of Congo, a French-speaking country, and the English-speaking republics of Central Africa which are located in the East of the continent. Its vision is to be, at the end of its establishment, a university with a sub-regional vocation forming an alliance between officially French-speaking countries and English-speaking States.
