As an extension of the higher education revolution, and an increase in the content of its materials to suit the social, economic and scientific conditions of higher education seekers, and a desire to liberate higher education from all temporal and spatial restrictions, it was necessary to provide this type of open education, due to the many advantages that are not available in other education systems. And in order to complement the role provided by resident education, the Council of Ministers issued its Resolution No. (164) in April 2002 AD, corresponding to Safar 2, 1423 AH, approving the Sudan Open University project. Then came the approval of the University Law by the National Council in its session No. (11) of the seventh session on Rabi` Awal 9, 1425 AH corresponding to April 28, 2004 AD. In the same year, the university’s organizational structure project was approved, which was in accordance with many of what was stated in the approved university law of 2004 AD, which consists of nine departments and secretariats.
