“The Catholic University, as a University, is an academic community that, in a rigorous and critical manner, contributes to the protection and development of human dignity and cultural heritage through research, teaching and the various services offered to the local, national and international communities. It enjoys that institutional autonomy that is necessary to fulfill its functions effectively and guarantees its members academic freedom, safeguarding the rights of the person and the community within the demands of truth and the common good.” (Ex Corde Ecclesiae, Part I) By its very nature, the university is a community. As such, it intends to work in harmony, united in the diversity to which it is open, respectful, attentive to the responsible and spontaneous expression of its members, authentic in that they must all act in accordance with the principles that govern it and Christian in the spirit that encourages her. The UCA community seeks to grow in sincere dialogue, in reflection on itself to deepen its achievements, correct courses whenever necessary and help each member to reach their fullness as a human person. In short, to give rise to a lively and creative university; committed to the society and culture in which it is inserted. "University institutions have always been distinguished by the love of wisdom and the search for truth, as the true purpose of the university, with constant reference to the Christian vision that recognizes in man the masterpiece of creation, as formed in the image and likeness of God (cf. Gn 1, 26-27). Characteristic of this vision has always been the conviction that there is a profound unity between truth and good, between the eyes of the mind and those of the heart: "Ubi amor, ibi oculos", said Ricardo de San Víctor (cf. « Beniamin minor”, c. 13): love makes us see. The university was born from the love of knowing, from the curiosity to know, to know what the world is, man. But also of a knowledge that leads to action, which ultimately leads to love” (Benedict XVI, April 1, 2006).
