The State University of Southwest Bahia (Uesb) is a multicampi institution, based in the city of Vitória da Conquista, located in the Mesoregion of the Center-South of Bahia, it is the third largest city in Bahia, with more than 348 thousand inhabitants, according to data. 2017 from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). Uesb has two more campuses, one in the city of Jequié, an important commercial and service center in the region, with a population of 162,209 inhabitants, and the other in the city of Itapetinga, which stands out as a pastoral center in the state, with a population of 77,533 inhabitants. These sub-regions, formed by a block of municipalities, present relevant demographic dynamism, with a relatively diversified rural economy (coffee, livestock, fruit and vegetables and some cocoa), some industrial activity and a significant offer of services. The emergence of the Uesb took place from the policy of internalization of Higher Education, contained in the Comprehensive Education Plan of the State Government, of 1969, with the installation of the Faculty of Teacher Training, in the municipalities of Vitória da Conquista, Jequié, Feira de Santana and Alagoinhas, which added to the Faculty of Agronomy of the Middle São Francisco (Famesf), created in the 1950s.
