The best higher medical institution – Poltava State Medical University – PSMU The Academy started its operations in 1921 with odontological faculty of Kharkiv Medical Academy. In 1967, the Institute moved to the city of Poltava and renamed as Poltava State Medical University. In 1994 Poltava State Medical University received the highest level of accreditation – the IV. Currently, there are 3615 students, 1400 of them – foreigners from 42 countries who are studying at the Academy (England,America,Ireland,Mexico,Italy,France,Denmark, Albania,Armenia,Romania,Palestine, Iraq, India,Cameroon,Kenya,Nigeria,Mongolia,China,Nepal,Iran, Syria, Morocco, Algeria,Jordan, Pakistan, Libya, Russia, Turkmenistan, and others). The Academy trains specialists in the following specialties: 1. Dentistry (7.110106 training period of 5 years) General Medicine (7.110101 training period 6 years) Pediatrics (7.110104 training period 6 years) Nursing (5.110102), the period of study 4 years, on the basis of secondary education) Pharmacy (5.11020) Preparatory course (training period 10 months) Postgraduate Education The scientific potential of the PSMU is the following: 82 doctors, 316 PhDs, 75 professors, 171 associate professors, 2 Laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine, 8 Honored Scientist of Ukraine, 6 Honored Doctor of Ukraine. Over the last decade, the Academy held significant changes that allowed to go up to a new competitive level of training, to introduce the most advanced technology training. Evidence of this is that the Academy awarded two silver and bronze medals at international exhibitions of educational institutions “Modern education in Ukraine – 2001, 2002, 2004.” Ukraine as a member of the UN and UNESCO is actively involved in international programs of higher education. In this context, Ukrainian Medical Stomatological Academy also helps foreign countries in preparing their national medical personnel. In order to improve the quality of medical training of specialists from among foreign citizens, the Faculty for Foreign Students Training started its activity in 1992. Training of foreign citizens is conducted according to the curriculum and programs of the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Public Health of Ukraine. Foreign students have at their disposal classrooms, reading rooms, library, and sports facilities on equal terms with citizens of Ukraine. Foreign students also have specially allotted areas for cultural, religious activities and community meetings. Courses are provided by teachers with extensive expertise of working with foreign citizens at the initial stages of their training. After graduation, foreign students obtain diplomas of international standard.
