University of Bahrl El-Ghazal is one of the five established public institution of learning in the Republic of South Sudan. It worth mentioning that the establishment of the universities did not occur synchronously, but at different times. University of Juba the oldest among them all was established in 1975/1976, while Bahr El-Ghazal and Upper Nile Universities were simultaneously established in 1991. Rumbek University got off the ground in 2008 and Dr John Garang Memorial University 2009. University of Bahr El-Ghazal was established in February 1991. The objective in the University Act says “To train manpower for Development need in South Sudan” it envisage the development of skilled Manpower to seek and determine rational methods of exploiting the vast potential natural resoucesthat could be geared towards the improvement of the lives of citizens within the context of national goal for rapid development. University of Bahr el Ghazal is one of the leading higher educational institutions in the country. Its main mission is knowledge construction, enhancement, teaching and dissemination within the framework of national and Higher Education, Science and Technology policies.
