The University of Kara was created by Decree N ° 99-011 / PR of January 21, 1999 of the President of the Togolese Republic and saw its solemn opening on January 19, 2004. It currently extends over 2 sites namely: the site of the Ex-ENI, called South Campus, which hosts three faculties (FDSP, FaSEG and FLESH) and the North Campus site in Pya which hosts two (02) faculties (the Faculty of Science and Technology and that of Health Sciences (medicine)). The number of students has grown from 1,500 students when the University was created to more than 18,000 students for the 2017-2018 academic year. The number of staff is approximately 815 Agents including teachers. Since 2008, the University of Kara has gradually entered the new education system called LMD (License, Master, Doctorate). She is a founding member of REESAO (Network for Excellence in Higher Education in West Africa). Created in October 2005, the REESAO works to promote a new university cooperation policy focused primarily on the modernization of the university training offer in order to facilitate mobility and professional integration.
