Djillali Liabés University was created on August 1, 1989 by decree N ° 89-41 of 08/01/1989 amended and supplemented by executive decree N ° 95-208 of 08/05/1995. It is the result of an evolution of about thirty years during which it has continued to grow. Before becoming a university, several statutes governed this establishment: A. The status of university center: From the opening of the doors of the establishment in September 1978 until August 1984. B. The status of national institutes of higher education (INES): from August 1984 to July 1989. The University of Sidi –Bel Abbés acquired its university status in 1989 after it was a university center whose activity began in 1978. University has different campuses distributed in a ring around the city. The latter is made up of Six (06) Faculties: (Sciences, Law, Engineering Sciences, Medicine, Economic Sciences and Human Sciences) spread over 09 sites. The university had 15,000 students for the year 2000/2001 as well as 22,000 students for the year 2005.
