The University of the Llanos (Spanish: Universidad de los Llanos), also called Unillanos, is a public, coeducational university based in the city of Villavicencio, Meta, Colombia. Its creation was based on the regional need to have an institution that would train the human talent of what has been called the "media Colombia", made up of the department of Meta and the then-called Vaupés, Guainía and Vichada Police Stations and the Municipalities. from Casanare and Arauca; characterized by its incalculable natural resources and its agricultural and livestock vocation, in addition to its incipient economic, social and cultural development and a marked dependence on the central entity, in every sense of the word, since higher education was a privilege that only could have those people who had sufficient financial resources to travel to the capital of the country. In its beginnings, the institution focused on training professionals to meet the demand for professionals in the area of health and education and to respond to the region's own agricultural and livestock expansion, through the five pioneering programs to know: Agronomy, Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics, Nursing, Degree in Mathematics and Physics and Degree in Agricultural Sciences.
