The State higher educational establishment, "Uzhhorod National University," is an inheritor of the higher educational establishment the Collegium, established with the permission of the Head of the Austrian State on the legal grounds of the constituent charter issued in Uzhhorod Castle on 2 July 1615. Uzhhorod National University is a legal successor of Uzhhorod State University in accordance with the Resolution of People's Council of Zakarpattian Ukraine and the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Zakarpattian Ukraine of 19 July 1945. Uzhhorod State University was granted the status of the National University by the Decree of the President of Ukraine on 19 October 2000.
